Houston’s largest family-friendly Halloween
event is back and better than ever!

 

 We had a great time last year.  The kids loved going through the zoo and getting candy at various stations, playing some little carnival-type games, and picking out a small pumpkin and decorating it.  Having another place to dress up and wear costumes was also a big plus.  Since Halloween only comes once a year, it's nice to get to dress up a few times. 

 

One important note:   The website says no toy weapons allowed.  Last year our oldest daughter dressed as a basketball player and we weren't allowed to take the basketball in the zoo.  We had to leave it in the office out front.  They didn't seem to want lose items like that to be brought in as part of the costume, so plan accordingly and call them if you want more specific clarification.

 

The pumpkin area is a great place to take pictures.  This was our first visit last year.

They got to decorate the pumpkins with paint markers.
We went twice last year!  This was the second set of costumes.

This is a great park along the Susquehanna River near Havre de Grace, MD. There are numerous trails to give variety to your hikes. We often park near the old mill where it's free and there are bathrooms available in the bottom of the barn at the top of the hill. The trail along the river follows an old railroad track, but there are hilly trails as well that give you an opportunity to enjoy beautiful plants and trees as well as large rock groupings. There's also the occasional wildlife to come across. We recently saw a small deer that decided to follow the trail we had just walked on. We have also parked at Steppingstone Museum, but that means that you will be hiking downhill at the beginning and uphill at the end. You can find more information at Susquehanna State Park .

That Fish Place (Lancaster, PA)

Just a small portion of the fish tanks there. Though some of my family was disappointed there were no dogs, there was plenty of interesting animals to see at That Fish Place or That Pet Place in Lancaster, PA. It costs nothing to look and it was interesting to see such a variety of fish, reptiles, and rodents. Of course, my favorite part was the sting ray touch tank. I love any opportunity to pet sting rays and all of my kids finally tried this time. This visit ended up inspiring my youngest to save up for a fish of his own. The sting ray tank. What is TripLearning?

I have always loved to travel.  Even though my parents never had a lot of money, traveling and seeing new things was always a priority.  Whether it was going to a park, museum, play or to visit friends or family, I loved to go.  Just as my parents often lived far from family and had to travel to see them, my adult life has been lived away from family as well.  Because of all of the traveling we have done as a family, I have been to 34 states and even our 3 year old twins have been to 24 states.  People often seem amazed that we do so much traveling with young children.  I think one of the reasons it works so well for us is because we have done it their whole lives.  They don't know anything different and so they have adapted.  I am sometimes afraid we have created little travel monsters because they are always eager to jump in the van and go somewhere.   I have several reasons why I believe taking trips is so important: 1....
