Friday Deal Tip- WOW Air

In case you haven't heard of WOW air yet, I want to let you in on the secret. If you have always dreamed of flying to Europe, but haven't been able to justify the cost of a plane ticket, this might be your chance. WOW air is a discount airline similar to Southwest, Spirit, or Frontier. You have the ticket cost and then you have to pay for everything else as add-ons, from luggage to seat assignments to food. This way you can have more control over your ticket price and not pay for things you don't need. I heard about WOW air from a friend who used it to fly to Germany from BWI and her family was very pleased with the price and planes. My husband and I have been wanting to do something for our 20th wedding anniversary, so I was able to get round trip tickets for us to fly from BWI to Iceland for $350/person. That was after adding on a carry-on bag for each of us and paying to pick our seats. It's hard to find domestic flights for that price to some cities, let alone to Europe. Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

It was a beautiful sunny day, so the kids and I decided to visit the botanical gardens at the Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens.  The flowers were in full bloom and it was a wonderful day to take pictures.  The kids love being outdoors and walking the trails.  Besides all the plants, we saw fish, a turtle, a frog, male cardinals (Abby's favorite bird), butterflies, a bee, and assorted bugs.  The arboretum is on the other side of the main road and there is also a playground on that side, but we didn't go over there today.  And... it is all free!  The arboretum trails are not as varied as the trails at the Houston Arboretum, but it is flat and easy for walking.  I also found out they have a FREE story time for kids and parents each month.  Here's the description from their website, http://mercerarboretum.org . Sheldon Lake State Park

Here are some photos from a recent visit to Sheldon Lake State Park .  It is a former fish hatchery.  There are some short trails, an 82-foot observation tower with an elevator, and ponds for family fishing.  It is also FREE admission for all ages!  It's on the East side of Houston off Beltway 8.  It's a small state park that gives you a nice break from the hustle and bustle of city living.  Take a picnic lunch and go exploring. Two of the former fish hatchery ponds. A 1/2 mile trail goes past the ponds. They have restrooms and some educational areas. There's a small botanical garden.
